When Symmetry Meets Year of the Horse

Before winter half-term, our last theme in English CM1 EMILE class was “Symmetry”. Every year, students are excited about learning this topic, because they are able to unleash their creativity on building their favorite symmetrical patterns.

Alien :

They were asked to find out symmetrical line of the pattern firstly and continued to completing the other half. It looks easy but it’s a little bit tricky for them to make sure that every part is symmetrical.

During our symmetry project week, it was also Chinese year week . In order to integrate with some cultural elements, we brought 2026 Chinese zodiac animal—the HORSE to our curriculum for celebrating this special moment.

We did horse origami and cut out one Chinese character “春” ( Spring), which means “ Welcome another wealthy and healthy year, starting from spring”.

Happy Chinese New Year.

Happy reading.
